Trauma-Informed Emotional Intelligence Curriculum For Teachers Expanded

Hope Rising has expanded its curriculum to provide educators with a trauma-informed emotional intelligence curriculum that includes comprehensive teacher training.

Norman, United States - April 4, 2023 —

By expanding its curriculum, the company intends to provide K-12 educators with an emotional intelligence curriculum that can deepen their trauma-informed perspective while teaching students resilient behaviors. Along with the interactive student materials for "My Best Me", educators receive a teacher guide, online teacher training, and access to a private Facebook group where teachers can collaborate, ask questions, and share ideas.

With this expansion, Hope Rising offers educators a fully-formed and flexible emotional intelligence curriculum. Lessons in "My Best Me", which are designed to be taught in 45-minute blocks, are non-sequential, so educators can pair them with corresponding sections of their primary curriculum or even match them with current events.

66% of adults in the United States have endured at least one adverse childhood experience (ACE) in their lifetime. As such, educators can expect that two-thirds of their students will have experienced at least one traumatic event, or ACE, by the age of 16. These experiences can lead students to have learning impairments, difficulty regulating their emotions in class, or an overwhelming sense of being unsafe or unable to trust their teachers and classmates.

"My Best Me" focuses on building trust, empathy, respect, and openness in the classroom. Educators can use the detailed lessons to establish an open dialogue with students about personal development issues that would be inappropriate for other class times. The curriculum teaches students about their identity and role in relationships, the importance of mental, emotional, and physical health, and the power of setting and achieving goals and practicing positive thinking.

Hope Rising's "My Best Me" curriculum was certified by the Hope Research Center at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa. This certification means that "My Best Me" teaches hope as a psychological mindset that drives resilient behaviors in students and educators. Hope Rising strives to use the evolving research on the science of hope to continually improve and deepen its emotional intelligence curriculum.

"Hope delivered through Emotional Intelligence (EI) enhances students’ cognitive competence giving them integrated skills needed to deal effectively and ethically with daily tasks and challenges," said one spokesperson for the company. "My Best Me is an evidence-based EI curriculum that can increase the social and emotional skills that will help nurture and support hope in classrooms."
