New Guide Encourages Lab Managers to Adopt Digital Lab Notebooks

According to Lab Manager, digital lab notebooks can help capture and describe experiments; other recommended software includes LIMS, inventory management software, and risk management software.

Baltimore,United States - December 5, 2022 /PressCable/

The ever-increasing need for accelerated R&D operations in digital labs is pushing lab managers to adopt new laboratory software.

However, introducing new technologies in lab processes may feel overwhelming. To make the process seamless, Lab Manager has recently released a guide that helps labs cash in on the right software stack.

According to the guide, taking stock of where a laboratory is with its requirements and specifications is the first step in choosing the right type of software.

Based on its operations, a laboratory can implement a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), Digital Lab Notebook or ELN, Inventory Management Software, or Risk Management Software. Among all options, a Digital Lab Notebook increases lab throughput by facilitating data capture and recording with no added friction, the guide explains.

According to Lab Manager, any laboratory looking to ensure that no data is lost in the case of a crash or failure should create a full backup of the exported data with SaaS and local storage media.

And once the software is finalised, choosing a pilot group to test it is critical. Executing such an evaluation process will help technicians understand if the features can adapt to their established workflows and best configure the system to match their lab specifications, explains the company in the guide.

That said, the guide stresses the importance of rolling out the selected software top-down and gradually.

“The functions that have been shifted over to the new software will draw new users to it out of necessity, and then the example set by lab leadership will encourage others to use it more.” explains the guide. “Over time, shift more functions over to the new software until it has been fully adopted and the old software is no longer used.”

According to Lab Manager, laboratories looking to bolster lab productivity while ensuring zero employee frustration should offer training documentation and hands-on tutorials on the use cases of the new system.

Even though implementing a new software may seem an expensive and time-intensive task, the right system eventually pays off by efficiently streamlining lab processes and improving overall productivity, explains the company.

For example, by including a class-leading ELN, LIMS System, and Scientific Data Management System (SDMS), Sapio Sciences’s Sapio Seamless Platform helps laboratories efficiently transform their lab procedures.

While any of these three components can be deployed as a standalone system, the real power of the digital lab can be harnessed by using all of them in parallel, explains Sapio Sciences.

Built by scientists for scientists, the Sapio Seamless Platform allows users to quickly configure the system for their data via easy drag and drop.

Being at the forefront of Digital Lab with its science-centric cloud-based Sapio Seamless Platform, Sapio harmonises lab processes across an organisation while facilitating scientific experiments enabling real-time collaboration.

To quote a spokesperson from Sapio Sciences, “With Sapio’s Laboratory Management System, you can easily graphically design and track complex workflow to workflow processes. Scientists can, with minimal training, use Sapio’s Science Aware Digital Lab Notebook software to track their experiments and collaborate with their colleagues.”

On top of this, while its powerful data capture and searching functionalities significantly reduce experimental redundancy, the integrated data visualisation and analytics tools accelerate test hypotheses, explains Sapio.

Founded in 2004, Sapio Sciences is a leading provider of Digital Lab Notebook, Laboratory Management and Knowledge Management Solutions that helps digital labs break through data silos and drive agility in their lab operations.
