KEBA has quickly drawn both critical and popular attention with her three debut singles, “Somebody”, “Pillow Talk”, and now “Loco for the Coco”. Keba Musik LLC owes KEBA’s success to her unique style, which combines conventional elements of R&B and soul with the distinct beats, sounds, and subversive energy of West African Calypso.

Keba Musik LLC explained that the music video puts a twist on the Trinidadian folklore character La Diablesse, also known as La Jabless. According to the legends, La Diablesse is an “avenging angel” figure that takes revenge on men who mistreat women.
In the music video, KEBA takes on the character of La Diablesse, turning it into an “anti-hero” that stands up to objectification.
Trevon Henderson, host of The Indie Seat, describes the music video as “one of those quiet anthems for women”.
KEBA’s musical background was heavily influenced by West Indian music traditions, which include Calypso and Soca. While being raised by her mother who was a keen piano enthusiast, KEBA was also exposed to Western artists, including Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, and The Supremes, as well as 50s music.
After moving to America, she released her debut album ‘Wildfire’ in 2013. In 2015, she made her stage debut as an opening act at the Tobago Jazz Experience followed by a European tour.
Her official site describes her music as a fusion of pop, R&B, and soul characterized by “exotic” rhythms, “cinematic” climaxes, and lyrical themes about empowerment. The site added that her vocals may remind listeners of artists like Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan.
