The partnership will provide non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) for PPT’s clients nationwide.
PPT collaborates with health systems, provider facilities, drugstore chains and transport services to smooth transitions of care for improved patient outcomes. PPT has incorporated Uber Health, to create a single access point for providers to pre-schedule affordable transportation. The Uber Health dashboard will be incorporated into the PPT concierge center, allowing medical and administrative staff to call PPT concierge to schedule rides immediately or up to 30 days in advance. The service will be available 7 days a week, and can be used for rides to and from care. This unique service will require no implementation with medical facilities and allows for personalized navigation throughout the transportation process.
Each year, 3.6 million Americans miss doctor appointments due to a lack of reliable transportation. As transportation barriers are common across the general population, access to an affordable ride through Uber to help avoid an exacerbation in a patient’s condition, which allows the patient to comply with their necessary medical treatments. Missed appointments can lead to increasing hospital penalty fees of $20,000 or greater within a 30 day admission period. Ultimately costing the U.S. healthcare system $150 billion a year in missed appointments. Patients don’t need the Uber app, or even a smartphone, to get a ride since it’s all done through text message or a phone call. In the future, Uber will be introducing the option for riders to receive a call with trip details to their mobile phone or landline instead.
PPT will provide monthly statements on every requested and completed trip to the medical provider to help them keep track of what they’re spending on rides.
