Contractors State License Center Is Offering Contractors License Classes Over Zoom In Los Angeles

Contractors State License Center is offering Zoom classes in California to contractors preparing to take the California Contractors License Exam.

Contractors in California need to pass a test administered by the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) to become licensed and take on work for a fee over $500. This is applicable to all businesses or individuals who construct or alter any building, highway, road, parking facility, railroad, excavation, or other structures. Contractors can be licensed as general engineering contractors, general builders, or in more specialized trades, such as framing, well drilling, landscaping, or masonry.

“Without the California contractors license,” says the spokesperson for Contractors State License Center, “it is illegal for you to bid on jobs where the combined value of labor, materials, and all other costs is more than $500. The CSLB has established statewide investigative fraud teams that focus on unlicensed contractors and the underground economy. Unlicensed contractors face potential sentences of up to one year in county jail and potential administrative fines from $200 to $15,000. So, if you are planning on seriously pursuing your career as a contractor in California, it is imperative that you get licensed as soon as possible.”

However, the exam that license applicants must take is challenging. Their exam consists of two separate tests, the Law and Business examination and a second test covering the specific trade or certification area for which they are applying. The test is multiple choice with the law test having 125 questions and the trade test having 80 to 125 questions on average. Applicants need to answer 73% of the questions correctly on the law test while the passing percentage for the trade examination varies.

“Most need some outside assistance or study material to pass the test,” says the spokesperson. “It can be especially challenging as working contractors are already busy with a grueling workday and have to make time to study for the test outside of their busy schedule. The test also deals with topics in business management and construction law that you may or may not be familiar with depending on the work that you do on a regular basis. So, it is recommended to take the help of an experienced tutor, such as the professionals at Contractors State License Center, to get the best chance of clearing the test on the first try.”

Contractors State License Center has over 50 years of experience helping contractors pass the exam administered by the CSLB. It has helped students from all over the state clear the test and move on to the next steps in their careers where they can take on higher-paying jobs and deliver higher quality services to their clients.

The school’s classroom curriculum includes six different courses that cover Law and Trade. The class is flexible, so students only have to come once a week in a two-hour block. After they have completed six weeks of classes, they can hone their skills and knowledge by taking practice exams. Recognizing that most contractors don’t have the time to make the trip down to their location in San Fernando Valley, the school also offers a home study program that includes books, practice exams, and study guides.

“We highly recommend that you enroll in the classes and take advantage of the classroom environment,” says the spokesperson. “It will allow you to engage in fruitful conversations with the tutors and really understand the material, increasing your chances of passing the test the first time. To make sure that we were able to serve students during the pandemic, we started Zoom classes which are still available and a favorite alternative for many. Call us today to find out more about our classroom courses, home study materials, and practice exams, and chase your goal of being a fully licensed contractor in the state of California.”
