Kaifan Co., Ltd. and its group companies have reached a strategic cooperation in hydroelectric power generation with Nepal

In the water-rich Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, a hydropower generation project has commenced.

The total generation capacity is 285 MW, which is equivalent to 16% of the current domestic power generation capacity, with an expectation to supply power for 35 years starting from the end of 2025.

Kaifan Co., Ltd. and its group companies, in collaboration with the Government of Nepal, foreign financial institutions, and overseas electric power construction companies, are embarking on a project to develop 8 hydropower plants in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, with a total generation capacity of 285.44 MW (Megawatts).

The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, surrounded by mountains such as the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, possesses abundant water resources, creating an ideal environment for hydropower generation. However, the rapid increase in electricity demand has outpaced the construction of power generation facilities, leading to routine planned power outages during the dry season, severely impacting life and the economy. While the government has been working to improve this situation by constructing new hydropower plants and transmission facilities, many challenges such as funding shortages and technical issues remain unresolved, making the sustainable and stable supply of electricity a significant challenge for this developing country. Additionally, there is a potential for exporting electricity to neighboring countries, given the substantial undeveloped hydropower resources.

Under such circumstances in Nepal, Kaifan, in collaboration with the Nepalese government and with the support of China Electric Power Construction Group Co., Ltd. (China Electric Construction), which has rich experience in overseas electric power facility construction, will work on the development of 8 hydropower plants. The total supply capacity will be 285.44 MW, which accounts for 16% of the current total domestic power generation capacity of 2800 MW in Nepal. The electricity generated by these power plants will be supplied domestically in Nepal through a long-term fixed power purchase agreement (PPA contract) with the Nepal Electricity Authority for a period of 35 years.
