On November 7, the 2024 "Rainforest and You" International Seminar on Tropical Rainforest National Parks opened in Baisha Li Autonomous County, China’s tropical island province of Hainan.

The seminar, themed "Protecting Tropical Rainforests and Coexisting Harmoniously with Nature," was organized by the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park Administration (Hainan Provincial Forestry Bureau), the Communist Party Committee of Baisha Li Autonomous County, and the People's Government of Baisha Li Autonomous County, with the support of the Tianhe Public Welfare Foundation and the National Park Research Institute. The conference aims to establish an international platform for exchange and cooperation, promote the high-quality development of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park, strengthen the protection of tropical rainforest biodiversity, and facilitate the realization of ecological values.

This seminar attracted experts and scholars from related national parks in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Singapore, as well as representatives from international organizations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, and the Global Wilderness Fund. Additionally, academicians and renowned experts from institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Chinese Forestry University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Hainan Provincial Academy of Forestry participated to share their experiences in managing national parks, including Hainan Tropical Rainforest, Sanjiangyuan, Giant Panda, Northeast Tiger and Leopard, and Wuyi Mountain. Over 130 representatives expressed their views and collaboratively explored new paths for tropical rainforest conservation and international cooperation.

During the conference, attendees engaged in discussions around four main themes: the protection and restoration of national parks, the pathways for realizing the ecological product value of national parks, the excavation and dissemination of cultural values of national parks, and flagship species protection and research within national parks. The seminar also showcased the achievements of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park in three years since its establishment and released management guidelines for wilderness conservation areas from the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Additionally, a special forum on cultural promotion of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park was held, sharing experiences on the role of cultural communication volunteers and the activities conducted by the Youth Advocacy Team of the Free Trade Port.

The seminar continues until November 8, during which representatives visit the Parrot Ridge area of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park and conduct field research on the progress of ecological civilization construction in Baisha.

The organizing committee stated that this seminar injects new momentum and vitality into the future development of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park. It is hoped that in the near future, Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park can become a model for global tropical rainforest conservation and make greater contributions to building a harmonious home for people and nature.
