To promote Taichung’s unique tourism culture, the Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau (TTB) meticulously planned the 2024 Taichung International Pastry Festival. Combining century-old pastry traditions, historical landmarks, tea culture, and creative industries, this event showcased a distinctive local flair. In its debut, the festival captivated global visitors, revitalized the traditional pastry industry, and successfully boosted tourism development. The festival’s innovative achievements earned the Bronze Award in the Public Service category at the 11th Taiwan Events Excellence Awards, establishing it as a highlight of Taichung’s tourism sector.

Director of TTB, Chen Meixiu, emphasized that the 2024 Taichung International Pastry Festival centered around pastry culture, featuring unique activities such as the "Pastry Feast" afternoon tea experience at the historic Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden and the "Top Scholar of Pastries" promotional event at local ancestral temples. By turning pastries into a new tourism highlight, the festival integrated local accommodations, tea culture, and creative industries, collaborating to launch co-branded pastry-themed cultural products. This innovative approach not only enhanced the appeal of pastry culture in the tourism market but also created a win-win synergy between tourism and pastry culture. The initiative aims to extend its reach to the international stage, further cementing Taichung as a culturally vibrant global tourism destination.

Director Chen further noted that during the 11th Taiwan-Vietnam Tourism Cooperation Conference held in October, the city government joined forces with multiple pastry and tea businesses to actively promote Taichung’s afternoon tea culture through the platform of the 2024 Taichung International Pastry Festival. This effort aimed to showcase the city's unique tourism appeal to the Vietnamese travel market and strengthen bilateral exchange and cooperation. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation, Vietnam ranks as Taiwan’s third-largest source of Southeast Asian tourists, with 380,000 Vietnamese visitors to Taichung last year, making it one of the city’s top five international tourist markets. Recognizing this substantial potential, the city government hopes to attract even more Vietnamese visitors to experience Taichung’s diverse tourism offerings and take home cultural souvenirs rich in the city’s heritage.

The TTB highlighted the pivotal roles played by Honorary Chairman Cai Wancai and Chairman Ji Xudong of the Taichung Pastry Industry Association in driving the success of the event. Honorary Chairman Cai remarked that the festival not only elevated the profile of Taichung pastries but also attracted international orders, achieving record-breaking sales. Chairman Ji added that the cross-sector collaboration between pastry culture, local tea brands, and the hospitality industry successfully drew more visitors, transforming the pastry industry into a powerful driver of tourism.
