“With such a mild winter, it's hard not to think about getting ready for spring. We understand maintaining your lawn care equipment might not be the first thing you think of as weather warms up, but the extra effort you put in now can help prevent problems from popping up when the grass does,” says Shawn Carothers, senior marketing manager at Toro. “Annual spring lawn mower maintenance is vital to extending the life of your mower, and we hope this week will serve as a yearly reminder to get ahead of schedule and get all your yard care equipment ready to go before you need it.”

No matter if you own a walk-behind or zero-turn, there are some tune-ups all mowers require. Owners should check that the mower blades are sharp, ensure old grass clippings and debris aren’t making a home in your mower deck and make sure the tires or wheels are ready to roll. Gas-powered mowers need their engines tuned up before starting up for the season — that means checking the oil, filters and spark plugs as well as filling it up with fresh fuel. Don’t forget — battery-powered mowers need maintenance too! Give battery mowers the same care and attention as you would a gas mower when it comes to checking the deck, blades and wheels, and get it charged up and ready to cut.

“Many of these tasks can easily be done at home. If you’d prefer to have a trained technician handle your yearly tune-up, your local service dealers are a great resource. They can also help find any parts you may need or share advice if you’re considering a new mower for the season,” says Carothers. “Regardless of where you tune up your mower, we at Toro can’t wait to celebrate the start of yard care season with homeowners and landscape professionals everywhere.”
