Wejo to Host National Work Zone Awareness Week 2021 Panel with Purdue University, Google, and the Indiana DOT

Transportation pioneers to discuss how connected vehicle data enables work zone safety

Wejo, the leader in connected vehicle data, today announced it will host a panel discussion during National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) 2021 exploring how DOTs around the U.S. can tap into connected vehicle data to create safer work zones and save lives. The session, titled, “Connecting the DOTs: How Connected Vehicle Data Enables Work Zone Safety,” will feature experts from Purdue University, Google, and the Indiana Department of Transportation (DOT), and will take place virtually on April 28, 2021 at 2pm ET.

NWZAW is an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season, dedicated to encouraging safe driving through highway work zones. NWZAW 2021, taking place this year from April 26-30, will be hosted by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and will embody the "Drive Safe. Work Safe. Save Lives.” theme. Wejo participates in NWZAW annually as a connected data vehicle company with critical information contributing to safer work zone planning.

“The infrastructure changes on our roadways are made possible by the individuals who work tirelessly to improve those roadways and help make innovations in mobility a reality. We must protect these key members of the community, and that starts with prioritizing work zone safety,” said Darcy Bullock, Joint Transportation Research Program Director, Purdue University. “This NWZAW panel will provide important perspectives on how technology can not only help improve the future of transportation, but also protect those building that future.”

The panel, stacked with experts at the cross section of mobility and innovation, will feature:

  • Darcy Bullock, Joint Transportation Research Program Director, Purdue University
  • Chris Daugherty, Cloud Platform Account Manager, Google
  • Ed Cox, Engineering Director of Traffic Management, Indiana DOT
  • Pam Fisher, MBA, CEcD. Director of Economic Development, Indiana DOT
  • Matthew McCann, Assistant Vice President of Enterprise Partnerships, Wejo
  • Matthew Blackwell, Solutions Engineer, Wejo

The conversations will explore:

  • The benefits of using connected vehicle data for work zone safety planning
  • Real examples of how Purdue University uses Wejo data to provide the Indiana DOT with insight on work zone safety issues
  • How Google Cloud’s platform provides secure, cost-effective data storage

“Wejo believes in the power of data for good,” said McCann. “With connected vehicle data, DOTs can further understand driver behavior, and more accurately and safely plan for construction on roadways. It is our hope that this NWZAW panel will educate and inspire others to unlock the potential for data to make roads better and safer for all.”
